Prison inmate allegedly had access to internet

barwon prison sign new gel broad 1It has been revealed gang kingpin George Marrogi had access to the internet from his cell in Barwon Prison.

Marrogi allegedly had access to the internet for months at the high-security complex in Lara.

In what has been described as an extraordinary breach of security, police have located and removed a number of devices from his cell, according to the Herald Sun.

Marrogi is accused of running his gang from behind bars.

Police say they will be working Corrections Victoria and the Australian Federal Police, but will not comment further.

Prison inmates in Victoria are banned from having access to the internet.

Tougher measures are now being introduced to prevent electronic devices and other banned items from being smuggled into Victorian prisons.
